We have released version 2.1.0. This update introduces a major new feature - DNS-based ad and tracker blocking for all VPN clients - along with several important improvements for stability and ease of use.
DNS Ad Blocking
The main new feature in this release is DNS Ad Blocking.
The server can now block ads and trackers automatically for all VPN clients. There is no need to install browser extensions, extra applications, or configure anything on users’ devices.
This feature includes:
- ad and tracker blocking at the DNS level
- support for all clients using the built-in DNS server
- 4 built-in blocklists
- the ability to add custom blocklists
- a whitelist for domains that should not be blocked
- automatic list updates every 24 hours
- separate enable/disable control for each list
- statistics for blocked domains
By default, the system blocks around 130,000+ domains, and with all lists enabled, it can block 250,000+ domains.
Updated DNS Page
We also updated the DNS settings page. It is now divided into convenient tabs:
- Settings - main DNS settings
- Records - static DNS records
- Ad Blocking - management of ad blocking, lists, and whitelist
This makes the page clearer and easier to use.
OpenVPN Fixes
Version 2.1.0 also fixes an issue where some OpenVPN clients could temporarily lose internet access after a server reboot.
After the update, the system now correctly waits until OpenVPN is fully started before applying network rules. This helps prevent random connection issues after restart.
Other Improvements
This release also includes several additional changes:
- client creation has been simplified - now it is enough to provide only
network_name - some fields are now filled automatically
- several field names have been made simpler and clearer
- the OpenAPI documentation has been expanded with new endpoints for DNS ad blocking
Summary
Version 2.1.0 makes the system more convenient, stable, and functional.
The main highlight is centralized ad blocking for all VPN clients, which works automatically through DNS.
The update also improves OpenVPN behavior, simplifies DNS management, and extends the API.
